I can remember reading about finger print scanners easily and consistently being able to fbe fooled, I think in particular it was those PDA based ones (google for it), they are NOT foolproof at all and using them for security purposes is simply a bad idea. At least on their own they would be fairly useless, with a separate passcode that pairs with the finger print the security would improve but still I wouldn't bother.
It's like at work we have smartcards that we can use for logon purposes but still need a passcode as well that just seems like a pointless exercise to me sure it adds another layer of security but not another good layer so why bother?

Yes, I know that now, but that is one of the few things I wasn't able to figure out myself on OS X.

So I have read posts here where people claim that the white iPhone 4 has an improved antenna design and hence has better performance. Anybody know if the same improvements have been made on the black iPhone 4?
I am exchanging my current black one at the store due to other hardware issues (home button, sleep on/off button, proximity sensor) and am trying to see if I will get a new black iPhone 4 with the antenna improvements.

Hey kntgsp where's the dock and manual? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't these things come with that stuff? Oh, and you never got back to me about whether you had a receipt or not. Thanks in advance.
There is no manual that comes with the iPhone, the dock on the other hand...

I know it can be done so do not post saying it's impossible, there are adapters that allow you to and ones to play it connecting it to your MBP then to the apple display, but how could I do that? What adapters would I need and how steep of a price am I looking at?

Hey Arn, have another question.
I have cookies enabled both at work and at home, and today. after already posted couple of times I needed to log back in. I thought that that freaking peecee was well... freaking.
But when I got home my trusted mac also requested to log in again.
Why was that? Did you reset something? Cleared out a couple non-active-users or so?

When you have Flash installed and ClickToFlash, Flash object will not be executed unless clicked on, thus Flash takes no CPU cycles unless needed.

I used to have click to flash on my old MBP, but ideally I just don't want to bother with it, at all. I have found another way, however, to dl youtube videos.
Go to Window > Activity. Under the heading for the YouTube page there will be two sections titled "about:blank." Expand the first one, and double-click while holding the option key on the link that looks something like this:
http://v15.lscache3.c.youtube.com/videoplayback?sparams=id%2Cexpire%2Cip%2Cipbits%2Citag%2Calgorithm%2Cburst%2Cfactor%2Coc%3AU0hPSVRLV 19FSkNOOV9MRUFH&fexp=903809&algorithm=throttle-factor&itag=18&ipbits=0&burst=40&sver=3&signature=0D67D3B81049BF7C42101403CB50C5FB8217F50C.5497AFB6D4CC82930CEDC082DF1C5386FFDD0B6B&expire=1304409600&key=yt1&ip=0.0.0.0&factor=1.25&id=5054da5e91720807
The mp4 file should start downloading right there. I use the YouTube5 extension and this method has never failed me.
Gotcha, thanks. I found this Safari 5 extension that seems to do a great job:

Judging by the video and screen shots of Lion it doesn't seem like there are that many elements left that use appearance colour anymore anyway. Seems like active buttons and progress bars are the only ones that use still use this colour. It's gone from Scroll Bars, Group Tabs, Popup Lists.
Yes I'm hoping like Highlight Colour it becomes completely user choice with a few well chosen default colours. I do prefer Graphite personally it's just tones things down to be less garish so although with extreme reduction in use the blue may not be so bad.
Any sign that they maybe standardizing on a sidebar background colour?
What with a couple of greys and a blue across various Apple apps. it would be good if this was user definable as well?

I have an LC 475 that's clock chipped to 33mhz. It's basically the 575 without the built in monitor. In my experience with the box, the last really stable and useful system to run on it was 7.6. I wouldn't put 8 on it.
Now, having said that, I think the OPTIMAL system to run on a 475/575 is System 7.1.x. It's easily the fastest, most stable and most solid in terms of functional features for that hardware platform IMO. 7.6 is a great system, but I think it needs a little more juice than the 475/575 can offer.

You missed the real story -- in the release notes Apple explain that they're deprecating the Apple maintained version of Java:
http://www.infoq.com/news/2010/10/apple-deprecates-java
Apple have provided a mechanism for installing 3rd party JDKs (in particular OpenJDK), but it likely won't work with current versions of Java IDEs (Netbeans, Eclipse etc) until they're updated to work with the new paths.
I wonder if this is anything to do with Oralce?

No, but you could do a block copy restore of the install DVD to a small partition on either its drive, or an external HD connected to that machine.
If the 2nd machine is an Intel Mac, its drive will be partitioned using a GUID map. PPC Macs can't boot to a drive using that map - it must be APM. So, if the preceding is true, you will need an external drive partitioned using APM (in the Disk Utility "Partition" tab, click on "Options..." to set the map type).
To make the bootable copy on your other machine's HD (or external drive), run Disk Utility and create a small (10GB should be enough) partition formatted Mac OS Extended (also making sure to set APM as the partition map type). Then, use Restore to copy the DVD to that new partition, making sure to check "erase destination" (which enables block copy).
Start up your other (2nd) Mac using FireWire Target Disk mode (hold down 'T' at startup). Now, when you startup the iMac G4, hold down the 'option', then select the partition you cloned the DVD to on your other machine. You should be able to startup on it, and during install, select the iMac's HD as the install target.
Hope that's not too confusing - I mixed "other" and "2nd" when describing your not-iMac-with-working-DVD machine. The bottom line is to access a bootable partition on that machine that you can boot off of using that machine in Target Disk Mode, connected to the iMac via FireWire.
Or, find an external FireWire DVD drive for the iMac. :)

I participate in folding@home because I believe their work is most immediately beneficial. I have a tremendous amount of computing power that for various reasons needs to stay on 24/7, and I feel that it is the right thing to do.
Beyond the "I know someone who..." thing, I feel that it is our responsibility as humans to help push to cure preventable disease. I feel like it is the conclusion that anyone curious about the world would come to.

I agree, to be a professional landscape/nature photographer you have to be really good. Actually, from my "hobby photographer outside looking in" perspective, being a successful photographer for profit is more about marketing and sales than about the photography itself. Let's face it, while there are some true photographic geniuses out there, almost anyone can learn to be a competent photographer with a little work and dedication. Once you are competent, it's all about selling.
I'm not sure about animals looking at the camera though. I heard a good saying once, that the pros don't go out to shoot animals. They go out and shoot animal behavior. In other words, the most compelling pictures of animals is when you have captured them doing something unique or exhibiting some special behavior. Pictures of lions sitting on rocks, cheetahs in the grass, etc. are dime a dozen. Pictures of lions or cheetahs taking down a zebra, that is more special.

They CANNOT be compared. Two totally different IEM's. Two totally different prices.
Exactly. I was pointing out that Ajays Four are nowhere near high end, by comparing them to something high end.

They both sound way too expensive for the specs involved. You should be able to find a DP 2.0ghz Powermac G5 for around $200-250 these days. An iMac G4 should not sell for over $100 imo, unless its the rare 20" model.
If you are short on cash but still want some power, look towards the higher end Powermac G4's. A DP 1.25 or 1.4ghz powermac will outperform the SP Powermac G5, and can usually be had for about $150.
Like the title says. It really REALLY depends on where you live for mac prices. I was shocked that prices where cheaper in Alaska before I moved here to california.
There were ton of great deals on Criag's List up there for gear, but down here close to Cupertino? Holy hell, you would think mac users are offering up their first born for a 1st gen 17' iMac G4.
I had to turn to Mac of all trades for a better deal. ( I do not work for them or are in anyway affiliated with them. But in my price range a few months back this single 1.8, now with a dual OWC from eBay was the best monetary solution to upgrade from my DA dual 533.
~Just my 2 cents on the matter, stay frosty

Hi guys,
Pulling my hair out with this one as I'm one of those types that wants a fix and not a workaround.
A couple of days ago I put my Mac Pro to sleep before I got into bed as I usually do.
I was just drifting off to sleep and the thing decided to wake up on it's own. I put it back to sleep and I thought nothing of it until about 30 mins later it did it again.
Now I reset the PRAM, reset the SMC, trashed the powermanagement.plist and this didn't have an affect.
I then thought actually, why not do a fresh install of Snow Leopard as it's been running for sometime now and I had a lot of software installed I didn't use so I thought why not.
It's STILL doing the same thing.
Now the log says:

So I am presuming it's a bluetooth device, which is either my magic mouse or my apple wireless keyboard causing the issue.
Could it be a dodgy bluetooth card though?
It hasn't had this problem ever before so I was also thinking it's maybe due to the recent 10.6.7 update which I read caused some trouble with bluetooth devices on some other macs.
It's just really bizarre.
I can turn off the 'allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer' and see if that helps but I have NEVER had to change this default setting before which would suggest some other conflict, a faulty mouse or keyboard or a faulty bluetooth card.
I don't want to just fix the symptom if the underlying problem is faulty hardware as I would rather have the offending article swapped out whilst I still have applecare.
Has anyone else experienced this lately???
Really appreciate you reading this so thanks!
