Some new news on the iMac. I got a mini vga to vga adapter today to plug into an external monitor and i get nothing. Nothing on the iMac display and nothing on external display when turned on. What does this mean?

Also I even tried restoring twice into earlier OS X Lion backups but that didn't even work :/ :(
I had a similar problem with Lion DP1. I erased the HD with Apples Disk Utility and reinstalled Lion DP1. However, the safe boot works usually in the final versions of Mac OS X.

I agree a PM is more suitable and reckon I'll buy one within 12 months but as a cheaper alternative the Mini makes a great stop-gap.
You don't have to go straight from a mini to a PM. What about an iMac if you need more power? :)

Has anyone here chipped their Wii's yet ?
I'm thinking of getting mine chipped to save alot of money � and import my wii games from the USA.
It will also mean I'm not waiting months for the pal version to arrive. (Still no trauma centre)
I hoped Datel would have released a wii freeloader - but it's not looking likely according to folks over on the code-junkies forums.
Has anyone experience of this - and whats the general consensus ? too early ? too unreliable ?

After some research my top 3 sorted options are:
1.- OCZ Vertex 2 120GB
2.- Intel X25-M 120GB
3.- Samsung 470 Series 128GB
I will be using it as my boot drive for Mac OS X 10.6.7, any suggestion which one would be the best option for speed ?, thanks

Since you have spent so much on MBP why not choose the original one.
If you bought used MBP, too old to buy a new original, you can choose Grade A replacement or a refurbish seller you trust.
2) Why I can't track original adapters from Apple Store?
If not buy from Apple directly, most time you can't. Apple don't accept it in fact, because these adapters get from OEM directly.
Trading Companies call it Gray Market, most original adapters are not brand new. QC from Apple is very strict, adapter with little scratch or even a tiny spot should be destoryed. And that's maybe what you get.

I think im just going to borrow a snow leopard disk from a friend and install it that way. Just curious though, when I had my own copy in my disk drive my windows pc wouldnt recognize it, how am I supposed to install boot camp off it?
Was it an original disk or a burned copy? As per the thread I linked the drivers are in their own session on the disc and if you don't explicitly copy it you ain't got it.

So Im a freelance Editor/Motion Graphics guy with no real understanding of RAID Controller Cards, or how they work.
As of right now I have three 1TB drives inside my Mac Pro, RAIDed together (stripe 0) using the OS. No Raid card.
The drives are all 7200rpm from varying manufacturers. (not sure if this matters.)
My questions is; is it beneficial for me to get a RAID card to control these drives vs. leaving it to the OS to handle? Any suggestions for me?

3 drives in RAID0 ? Yikes, anyone of them goes and your machine is out of action. RAID0 offers no fault tolerance as no drives in the array share parity info or are mirrored.
You would most certainly see a benefit in a hardware RAID solution, especially if you are going to switch to a RAID level with some redundancy, like RAID5 or RAID10. Also a true hardware RAID takes the processing load off your processors and memory.
If on a budget you could go with RAID-Z, it involves switching to the ZFS file system. RAID-Z1 apparently offers similar performance to RAID5. Read this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1135718) for further insight.
I would get an SSD for the OS and use the 3x 7200rpm Disks in RAID5.

or Just RAID5 with 3x HDD's and partition the RAID volume.

The speed boost over OS X is somewhere between threefold and fourfold for the involved functions.
� I boot into 9 to scan. I have two scanners, both decently good, neither with OS X drivers available. The Umax Astra slide scanner was noted as having very good color values for the price, and the price was low due in part to lack of OS X drivers. The old flatbed, a Umax 630, is a 3-pass SCSI scanner that will probably still be humming along nicely when MacOS 10.9 is becoming obsolete.

I Timbuktu into the older one to handle a chore that it does better (under MacOS 8.6, mind you, not even 9) than OS X does on the fastest machines in the shop: opening up folders on a mounted server folder that are chock-full of huge TIFF and Photoshop images, and copying selected files to a folder from a different mounted server volume also chock-full of huge TIFF and Photoshop images. OS X thinks its doing me a favor by trying to conjure up and display a thumbnail of each image based on actual file content. OS 9 doesn't do that (only displays the little classic-mac custom icons generated by Photoshop, if present), enabling an eleven-year-old PowerMac 7100 with a 300 MHz G3 accelerator and 10-base-T networking to do this task as well as dual-G5 Macs with gigabit ethernet...and blow my OS X PowerBook completely out of the water.

It certainly had its shortcomings (especially with regards to memory, oy vey) but it also had a great deal of sophistication �€�? lots of little things that had started off great or evolved to greatness. It was the best all-around small computer operating system of the 20th Century. I'd still use it over XP, or the first few iterations of OS X.

i half switched but still
when i was 7 we had a pb 100 with a stylewriter very cool but the power books mother board fryed when some one (not mentioning any names) puged an adb mouse in when it was turned on!!!
when i was about 11 we needed a computer so we went out and got a pc mag about 2 weeks later we were set to get a pile of crap from gateway then my dad saw a mac mag with an imac on the front so he called apple and got pissed of about there phone information as the guy on the line was compleatly incompadent and took it out on computers in genral so delayed our purchace a few months.......
a few months later he saw a cube a few months later...
2000 odd pounds of savings= a power mac g4 cube+15" apple studio display + epson 880 and a beta copy of osx.
2 weeks later one 12 year old mac expert
(i mean expert I fixed my freinds macs for them and made a tidy prophet too)
I also got my own ibook 12" 600 cd at the age of 14 (I got it for school as my hand writing is awfull (not to mention my spelling)
my school is macaphobic
the head of iT "dont plug your ibook into the network it could make our server crash"!
now my school has ordered 10 imacs and 2 pm g5's.
